While it is possible to kill a Regenerator with very powerful conventional weapons, a look at the creature through a thermal scope reveals its true weakness: each Regenerator carries two to five small, leech-shaped Plagas inside its body. Should all of these Plagas be killed, a Regenerator's upper body will explode.

The Regenerator

Regenerators, in Resident Evil 4, are lumbering monstrosities only found in the game's final scenario-the Island. As the name implies, they are capable of rapid regeneration of any limb or body part.

Characteristics

A Regenerator is shaped like a human, though its hairless skin is speckled gray and shiny (possibly slimy). Their mouths are much larger than a human's and filled with sharp teeth, and their hands have dangerous claws. Their skeletal structure, if present, is clearly quite flexible: they recover immediately from being bent completely backwards and can stretch their arms over a distance. Regenerators walk with a slow, lumbering gait, and their breathing is strained and erratic, possibly due to an oversized heart and lungs.

If a Regenerator is injured, or if one of its limbs is removed, small Plaga-like tentacles sprout from the wound and lash about violently as the creature's regenerative abilities take effect. Within moments, injury is healed, the limb fully restored, or the head completely reconstructed.

Regenerators attack by slicing with their claws or biting the victim's neck. Loss of a limb will not slow the creature's pursuit: in fact, removing its legs enables it to move more quickly as it slithers on the ground.

Role in Resident Evil 4

They are considerably more dispersed than their Iron Maiden cousins, and the first one is encountered in one of the island's autopsy rooms, where it rose and attacked Leon as he took a special keycard. Later on, Leon encountered some more dispersed through the last levels.
