Remy Baker, or simply "Daughter", was a proposed character for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Though at one time envisioned as a major antagonist of the game, as time went on Remy's various roles were split between an expanding cast, with Remy ultimately serving as the precursor for Zoe Baker, Mia Winters and Eveline. Remy may have had other names earlier in her development, though this is uncertain.

Development history[]

Remy was among the first ideas proposed for the game, being conceived of alongside the Guest House before anything else in the game. Both were featured in a proof-of-concept video made in March 2014 to visualise the proposed game to new team members.[1] The actual cast for the game went through various changes in 2014 and 2015, with Remy being at times the only consistent character design,[2] appearing in the game late as mid-2015 when she became the villain of the "KITCHEN" demo.

Over the course of 2015 and early 2016 the story became more fixed, with Remy's role in the story being increasingly sidelined. Remy soon became the second daughter of Jack and Meg Baker with the inclusion of Annabel, while Grandma Baker was to revealed as Remy herself in another form; Annabel herself was modeled on Remy though with a different hairstyle, and later became Zoe.[3] By 2016, Remy had evolved once more; no longer related to the Baker family, she was to be a missing woman the protagonist, a private investigator, was searching for.[4][note 1] Her relationship with Grandma was then translated onto a new character, Samara,[3] later named Eveline, who took her place as the third child of the family and was originally designed as a younger version of Remy. For a short time a younger brother also called Remy was considered, but this was abandoned.[4]

While no longer in the game in her original form, Remy made a cameo appearance in "Beginning Hour", a public demo of the game launched in June 2016 after it was announced at E3, where she earned the nickname "ghost girl" by the fandom due to her spontaneously appearing and disappearing. Development documents presented to the press however continued to feature her, possibly to keep Eveline a secret.[5][excerpt 1]
