Plot[]
At Bennet University in Singapore, biology professor Doug Wright is giving a lecture attended by his nephew, Ricky Tozawa, discussing the dangers of biological weapons. After the class, a colleague hands Doug a letter from his ex-girlfriend, Gracia, revealing that several female students at her school have been infected and turned into zombies, posing a serious biohazard risk to the entire institution. Doug requests a three-day leave and asks Ricky to join him on a mission, promising to help him pass his next exam.
Their destination is Marawha School, a prestigious boarding school deep in the Asian jungle. After two days of traveling through the jungle, they arrive. Ricky asks why Doug accepted the letter’s request so quickly, and Doug reveals that Gracia was once his fiancée. They are greeted by Bindi Bergara, the student representative, and her deputy, Alisa Lin. The pair are escorted to Gracia’s office, where they learn she is the school’s headmistress. Doug is thrilled to see Gracia, noting she hasn’t changed, but she responds coldly, stating too much time has passed for things to be as they were. Gracia shows them a zombified student chained in the basement. Doug identifies the T-Virus, realizing the situation is dire and beyond their ability to handle alone. He urges Gracia to call for external help and request the Daylight vaccine, the only counter to the T-Virus, and contact the B.S.A.A., a special anti-bioterrorism unit. Gracia refuses, insisting she called Doug to solve the issue discreetly, determined to keep the school’s biohazard risks secret despite the infected student.
Doug tasks Ricky with investigating the school, questioning students, and examining both the institute’s animals and local wildlife, suspecting a carrier of the virus. Through Alisa, Ricky learns that students, after finishing elementary school, live at the boarding school with little knowledge of the outside world. Meanwhile, Chris Redfield, now captain of the B.S.A.A.’s North American Alpha team, completes a successful mission against mutant creatures. Agent Merah Biji reports to Doug, their consultant, and the team heads to Singapore to meet him.At Marawha School, Doug continues his investigation late into the night. Ricky, sleeping in his room, is attacked by Alisa, who has turned into a zombie and bites his shoulder. Hearing his screams, Doug, Gracia, and her men intervene, restraining Alisa. Doug again pleads with Gracia to call the B.S.A.A. before the situation spirals out of control, but she has the zombie removed and orders Doug to continue investigating after tending to Ricky, who she assumes will turn. In pain, Ricky begs Doug to shoot him if he transforms. Doug apologizes for bringing him into this danger.
Bindi confronts Gracia about Alisa and external help, but Gracia dismisses her.By morning, Ricky wakes up unscathed, showing no symptoms, which shocks Doug, who expected the virus to spread within an hour of a bite. Suspecting rats as the source, they try but fail to capture them. Bindi asks about Alisa, but they can’t tell her anything. Meanwhile, Gracia burns the zombies’ bodies in an old shed to erase evidence. Ricky, suspecting her plan, finds the charred remains of Alisa and another student. Bindi, witnessing this, collapses in shock. Doug and Ricky realize Gracia’s obsession with protecting the school’s reputation has driven her to madness. Deciding to escape and seek help, they discover their jeep is destroyed, and with no cell service or landline in the isolated area, escape on foot is impossible. In her office, Gracia vows to protect her “sanctuary” at all costs. A zombified student attacks her but is quickly subdued by loyal students. Gracia shoots the zombie and orders a cleanup, warning that Doug must complete his work or face death. Back in their room, Ricky asks if Gracia was always unstable, but Doug says she was different when they were together, unable to understand what changed her.A flashback reveals Gracia inherited the school from her estranged father, part of a wealthy and influential family. Surprised, as she believed her father hated her, Gracia became intoxicated by the power of owning the institute, where she alone reigns. Back in the present, Doug tells Ricky they must oppose Gracia to prevent further disaster. Ricky takes Bindi to the site where Alisa’s body was burned and reveals the truth.Doug confronts Gracia, determined to continue the investigation without her support, but she insists he focus solely on finding the virus’s source. Bindi mentions that workers conduct annual checks in the school’s basement, where all utilities are located. That night, a teacher investigating the basement entrance is attacked by five zombified workers who hadn’t returned for hours. Though gravely injured, he escapes and calls for help. Doug and Ricky, joined by Gracia’s assistant Ray Hsu and special guard Thair Kapoor, arm themselves and prepare to descend into the basement to uncover the virus’s source.
