Resident Evil: Vendetta premiered on 25 May 2017, with a mainstream Japanese release two days later. The film enjoyed a more limited screening in the United States with distribution secured by Fathom Events as a one-day-only release on 19 July. A number of marketing campaigns took place in the lead-up and following the theatrical release.
The lead staff took part in a number of interviews in the lead-up to the theatrical release. Hiroyuki Kobayashi and writer Makoto Fukami held an interview with The TV, explaining how the initial pitch was that Chris and Leon team-up in 2015.[1][2] A press event was held on 25 April at the Shinjuku Piccadilly theatre, where director Takanori Tsujimoto declared his film to be a love letter to producer Takashi Shimizu.[3] Tsujimoto was later able to persuade his friend Mamoru Oshii, director of the 1995 Ghost in the Shell film, to take part in the press tour. Oshii gave his stamp of approval to the film, praising it for successfully blending the franchise's political and fantastical elements into a production that almost resembled live-action.[4] The following month on 13 June the two attended a special screening of the film at the Piccadilly.[5][6]
Further promotions came in the form of companies involved in production. Italian motorcycle producer Ducati promoted their film, which featured a 2016 model bike being driven by Leon. Dolby provided a special screening of the film at their Atmos theatre to promote their sound design capabilities.[7]

PSVR[]
Sony cross-promoted the film with their PlayStation VR headsets, releasing "Z Infected Experience" on 24 May. Set within the world of the film, it followed the final moments of a New Yorker as they Zombify, attack and get killed by Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy. The short film was available for free.[8]
Continuing from Damnation, Kadokawa published a novelisation. Released on 25 May, the Vendetta novel was written by film writer Makoto Fukami, which included details excised from the script.
