For the unreleased Nintendo 64 prototype, see Resident Evil Zero (N64 version).

Resident Evil 0, known in Japan as biohazard 0 (バイオハザード0 baiohazādo 0?), is a survival horror video game that was developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo GameCube and released in 2002. It is the seventh home console game in the Resident Evil series by release order and was the last of the title to use the original Multi-View gameplay system prior to the release of Resident Evil 4.

A remastered, high-definition version of the game has been released in January 2016, known in Japan as the biohazard 0 HD remaster (バイオハザード0 HDリマスター?). It was also included in the Origins Collection. A port of the remaster was released on May 21, 2019, for the Nintendo Switch.

The game's storyline is standalone, but ties in to the stories of Resident Evil, Resident Evil CODE:Veronica and the cancelled "Castle" game, with the plot involving the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team ahead of the Mansion Incident, Dr. Albert Wesker's betrayal of Umbrella, the backstory of an Umbrella founder, and new lore on the Progenitor Virus.

Summary[]

Faced with the relentless Zombies and other horrifying creatures, S.T.A.R.S. officer Rebecca Chambers makes an alliance with Billy Coen, an escaped criminal. Unknowingly, Rebecca stumbles into the prelude of an event where she will be tested to her limits and her greatest fears will be realised. Together, Billy and Rebecca must survive the nightmare and expose the dark secrets of what has caused it.

Cast[]

Main characters[]

  • Rebecca Chambers – An 18-year-old university chemistry graduate serving as the rookie medic for the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team. Chambers is on her first mission, which is to investigate the mysterious murders plaguing the Arklay Mountains. Soon after landing, the mission changes to focus on the apprehension of 2LT Billy Coen. She is separated from her team during the search and finds herself on the Ecliptic Express, a private Umbrella train that has mysteriously stopped in the forest.
  • Billy Coen – A dishonorably discharged Marine officer with the rank of Second Lieutenant. Scapegoated for the massacre of civilians in a failed mission, Coen was being transported to a military base on the other side of Arklay County for his execution. His transport was destroyed, and his MPs killed in an attack by an unknown force, forcing Coen to seek safety on the same nearby train.

Supporting characters[]

  • Dr. James Marcus – An accomplished virologist and one of the three founding members of Umbrella Pharmaceuticals. He led his own t-Virus research, distinct from those of his fellows in the laboratory below Umbrella's executive training center. However, he mysteriously disappeared ten years prior to the events of the game. A mysterious individual is now using infected leeches to coordinate attacks on Umbrella in his name.
  • Dr. William Birkin – An Umbrella researcher who played an influential role in the t-Virus and G-Virus Projects. He was one of the leaders in the project to reopen Dr. Marcus's training center when their teams were attacked by leeches.
  • Dr. Albert Wesker – An Umbrella security officer, former researcher, and Captain of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team. He has been assigned to oversee the reopening of the training center alongside Dr. Birkin.
  • Captain Enrico Marini – The leader of Bravo Team. He led the search for 2LT. Coen, and when Chambers was separated, he attempted to remain in radio contact.
  • Edward Dewey – The Bravo Team pilot who is attacked by dogs in the forest and escapes onto the Ecliptic Express soon after Chambers' arrival.
  • Bravo Team members Forest Speyer, Kevin Dooley, Dr. Kenneth J. Sullivan, and Richard Aiken also make appearances in the game. However, they have no dialogue and only serve a minor role. The only other reference to them as Bravo Team is that they all head off-screen to Spencer Mansion a few miles away from the training school.

Extras[]

Completing the main game in any difficulty level will unlock Wesker Mode, allowing you to play the game as Albert Wesker who has two new abilities, as well as the bonus minigame Leech Hunter.
