Further notes

Below is a list of translation errors made during the localization of Resident Evil 4, and changes to the plot.

File changesEdit

Ada's Report Edit

Ada's Report was modified to make a reference to Jack Krauser's arm, giving the impression that Jack's mutagenic abilities were pre-existing rather than the result of the dominant species Plaga.

Paper Airplane Edit

The sender of the paper aeroplane is left vague, with the localisation directly confirming it to be Ada.

Our Plan Edit

Two characters are addressed differently in the English version. "The village chief" became "Chief Mendez", while Salazar became "Ramon".

Cutscenes Edit

The script for Resident Evil 4 saw a number of minor changes, with either word additions or replacements, or added dialogue. A routine part of localisation, the result in this game was to add comedy to the game, with a number of character's lines made to be jokes.

Chapter 1-1Edit

The Spanish cops can be talked to if Leon turns back to cross the bridge rather than go to the house. Whereas in English the first cop cutscene will say "Not that way, cowboy", the Japanese version (そっちじゃねぇ   バカ) refers to Leon just as an idiot. In the second cop scene, the Japanese script is "Did you forget something?" (なんだ 忘れ物か? Nanda wasuremono ka??), but in English it is "Forget your makeup or something?"

In the ending cutscene, Luis describes Fr. Mendez as the "boss" (ボス bosu?). In the English version, he refers to him as the "big cheese".

Chapter 1-3Edit

During the radio call with Hannigan, Leon talks about meeting the "village chief" (村長 sonchō?). This is also changed to "big cheese" in the English.

Chapter 5-3Edit

Jack Krauser's conversation with Leon is slightly altered. While he does say that he is supposed to have died two years ago, it being in a crash is unique was added into the English version.
