"Special agent Leon S. Kennedy is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. President's daughter who has been kidnapped."
— Description on Steam

Following the Raccoon City Destruction Incident and subsequent outrage, the Umbrella Corporation was sanctioned by the government and financially crippled, all but ceasing to exist as a business. Meanwhile, Leon Scott Kennedy was recruited and trained by the government to become a special agent after they learned of his actions in Raccoon City. Now an agent for a special security agency, Leon is sent to Spain on a mission to rescue Ashley Graham, the daughter of President Graham, after she was kidnapped by a mysterious cult.

Resident Evil 4[]

Village[]

In August 2004, Leon is sent to Spain with just a pistol and a knife, and is driven to Valdelobos, a mountainous region near Italy, by two Spanish cops. Mario Fernández Castaño and the driver stay in the car while Leon investigates a solitary house on the footpath to the village centre. On his radio, Leon gets a call from Ingrid Hunnigan, who introduces herself as his support operative. Leon enters the house and asks its sole resident, a middle-aged Spanish man, where Ashley is, showing him a photo of her. The man angrily tells Leon to leave before attacking him, forcing Leon to kill him. A truck then rams the police car down into the river, snapping the rope bridge.

Leon defends himself against the hostile locals and looks down at the wreckage, but finds no bodies. Leon heads towards the village proper and finds a dog caught in a trap, which Leon frees. Leon enters the village proper, but is attacked by a huge contingent of unruly villagers, one of which has a chainsaw, who pledge their lives to the cult that perpetuated Ashley's kidnapping. After fighting them off, Leon is saved when the church bell rings in the distance, prompting the locals to head there. At the middle of the village is a bonfire with Mario's corpse handing on it, stabbed into a pole with his eyes gouged out.

Heading deeper into the village and finding more hostiles, Leon opens a banging wardrobe and meets Luis Sera, who was tied up with his mouth taped. Suddenly, the village chief, Bitores Méndez, approaches and knocks them both out. Leon soon awakens in a different location with his jacket removed, finding himself chained to Luis. Leon reveals why he is there, showing him the photo of Ashley, to which Luis says he was a cop in Madrid, also revealing he overheard the villagers talking about taking her to the church. A villager then enters the room to kill them both with an axe, but they free themselves; Leon kills him while Luis runs off.

Leon finds his weapons and leaves, before meeting another local with the same glowing yellow eyes, though he does not attack Leon, but is instead a Merchant who only wants to make money, allowing Leon to buy and sell armaments. Leon finds Luis' notes as he traverses the region, discovering that Los Iluminados is the cult responsible for taking Ashley, and that they gained control of the locals by forcibly implanting them with a mind-controlling parasite known as "Las Plagas" into their bodies, a procedure in which only the adults survived.

Leon makes his way to the chief's house, where he finds him waiting; the chief chokes Leon, but unhands him after seeing that his eyes are turning yellow. He tells Leon that he now carries "the same blood as us" and that he will be spared as long as he doesn't cause trouble. A confused Leon follows the chief to question him, but he knocks his pistol away and pins him down, when a woman in a dark pink dress shoots the chief from outside the window. The chief jumps out the window to grab her, but she uses a grapple gun to escape.

Leon finds a lake and walks atop a hill over looking the lake, and observes with his binoculars; he sees two villager Ganados using a speedboat to dump the corpse of the other Spanish cop in the middle of the lake. Once they retreat back to land, Leon encounters a massive mutated salamander. Leon uses the speedboat, which is stocked with harpoons, to kill the creature. However, once back on land, Leon spits blood and passes out in a cabin. After a brutal nightmare, Leon jolts awake six hours later, when a worried Hunnigan calls him to check on him.

Now dark and rainy outside, the Ganados are more dangerous, as their parasites occasionally pop out of their decapitated heads. Leon finds the key to the church, but on the way back, Leon encounters and kills a ferocious giant in a quarry. The dog from earlier helps Leon during the fight, before parting ways with him. Leon finds a terrified Ashley in the church, but introduces himself as a friend and takes her with him. As they are about to leave the church, they meet the mastermind of Los Iluminados, who introduces himself as Osmund Saddler. He reveals that his cultists injected a parasite into her neck, then did the same to Leon when the chief knocked him and Luis out, intending to send her back to the US for her to wreak havoc.

Saddler then has his two bodyguards fire their crossbows at them, but they flee and escape. Leon calls Hunnigan, asking for a rescue chopper. Leon takes Ashley through the village and across a bridge. Cornered by Ganados chasing them, they enter a cabin and find Luis, who introduces himself to Ashley with a quip about her breasts, to which Leon defends her. When Ashley sees Ganados approaching outside, she hides upstairs while the guys fight them off, prompting them to eventually give up and retreat. Luis says he forgot something, so he leaves. Unfortunately, Hunnigan informs Leon that the helicopter has been shot down. Leon and Ashley press on, since the rope bridge they crossed is destroyed.

Later, Leon finds a large shed, but has a bad feeling, and so tells Ashley to hide outside. Inside, Leon is cornered by the chief, so he tips over an oil drum and shoots it, igniting the chief and setting the building on fire. The chief transforms into a large monster, but is killed by Leon, and his False Eye pops out. Leon takes it uses it on a retinal scanner to open a door, then he and Ashley cross a drawbridge to a castle. They then use levers to close the bridge, as to escape the Ganados. Now on the castle grounds, Leon and Ashley erroneously believe they can take refuge until another chopper arrives.

Leon finds more Ganados, who wear black robes and are tougher than the villagers, similar to Saddler's two bodyguards. After fighting through the cultists. Leon gets a call from Hunnigan, who asks where he is, to which he says he is laying low in a castle, but that it was a bad move, as it is a base of Los Iluminados. Hunnigan begins advising Leon, but the signal is cut off. Luis catches up with Leon and Ashley, but he realises that he dropped the bottle of pills that would suppress the parasite's growth, so he goes back to get it. When Leon asks why he is helping them, Luis vaguely says it is to make him feel better about himself.

Castle[]

Upon entering the castle proper, Leon and Ashley meet yet another of Saddler's acolytes. Atop a balcony, a short old man appears, accompanied by two large, silent, robed Verdugos. The man introduces himself as Ramón Salazar, 8th Castellan of Salazar Castle. He tells Leon and Ashley that he only needs Ashley alive, whereas Leon will die eventually. Once they leave, Ashley tells Leon in a determined tone that she will never become one of them, to which he tells her that they will find a cure.

Leon takes Ashley through the castle and fights many enemies, including the Garrador. When Ashley coughs blood, she panics and runs from Leon, but is caught in a wall trap, which spins her into another room. Leon tries calling Hunnigan, but is met with Salazar instead, as the line has now been jacked. Leon demands to know where Ashley is, to which Salazar is happy to learn that she fell into one of his traps. He then tells Leon that he let his miserable insects into the sewers, where Leon must go to find her.

After killing the Novistadors, Leon enters a room with another balcony, finding Salazar up there with his two Verdugo bodyguards. He tells Leon that he only needs Ashley alive, to which Leon tells Salazar to get off his back, referring to him as "old man". Amused, Salazar tells Leon that he is only 20 - the same age as Ashley. Leon tells him he is just another puppet of Saddler, but Salazar says he is more than just a Ganado, that he has absolute control over the parasites. He then retreats as several cultists appear and close in on Leon, but he kills them and presses on.

When Leon reaches a garden with a hedge maze, Salazar calls him and says he'll never escape it, and that his Colmillos live there. Salazar bids Leon farewell, as he has two more rats to chase down. A confused Leon wonders who is invading the castle grounds other than Luis. After getting the key from the maze, he unlocks the next door, but the woman who saved him from the chief comes up behind him, pointing her Blacktail against his back, demanding he put his hands up. He mocks her, saying that following a lady's orders just isn't his style. When she repeats her order, he swiftly turns and manages to take her pistol.

She smirks and removes her shades. Leon realises it is Ada Wong, and then deduces that she is working for Albert Wesker. He asks why, but she flees when her shades explode from a built-in smoke bomb. Later on inside the castle, Luis catches up with Leon, holding the pills and the sample, but Saddler comes behind him and impales his chest with a mutated claw, taking the sample, before leaving. Dying, Luis confesses that he is a researcher hired by Saddler. In his dying breaths, Luis gives Leon the pills and tells him to get the sample back from Saddler.

Leon sees Ashley on the floor below, still trapped, but it is too far down, so he shoots her bindings, freeing her. Ashley escapes through a door to reach Leon, so he waits there while Ashley goes on her own, fleeing two cultists and several Armaduras. When Ashley reaches Leon's floor, she runs and hugs him, apologising for earlier. They go deeper in the castle and find Salazar alone in a room, which he leaves after activating a trap, lowering the ceiling with spikes, but Leon shoots the switches and they escape. They press on and find the Novistadors' nest, where one of them grabs Ashley; it flies away with her as she screams for Leon.

Leon eventually finds Salazar's throne room, seeing Salazar on his throne with his two bodyguards standing over Ashley on her knees. Salazar presses a button to activate a large trap door under Leon's feet, but he survives by using a grappling hook on his utility belt. An annoyed Salazar sends one of his bodyguards to kill Leon, while the other takes Ashley with Salazar to prepare her ritual. Salazar calls Leon and says he has sent his right hand to dispose of him, but Leon jokingly asks if Salazar's right hand comes off. He yells for Leon to die, and Leon traverses the sewers, eventually finding and killing Salazar's bodyguard.

Meanwhile, Saddler is on his throne on a nearby island, ordering a mercenary named Jack Krauser to get Ashley and kill Leon. Leon finds a giant statue of Salazar, which eventually chases him, but Leon flees to the next part of the castle, and the statue falls through a collapsing bridge. He then finds Salazar and his remaining bodyguard. Salazar tells Leon that Ashley will join their cause, but Leon throws his knife with pinpoint accuracy, piercing Salazar's hand, causing him to whimper in pain. The bodyguard swiftly throws the knife at Leon, which he dodges, as they escape into an elevator.

Leon finds them again, but Salazar says that the ritual is over, and that Ashley is being taken to an island. He and his bodyguard are then assimilated into a giant monster, but Leon destroys it. Leon reaches the dock and finds Ada waiting in a speedboat, who smirks and asks him if he needs a ride. Once at the island, Ada uses her grapple gun to reach land, leaving Leon on the boat, telling him that she has business to do. Leon lands elsewhere, and Saddler calls him, to which he says he killed Salazar. An unimpressed Saddler says that Salazar was a small-time subordinate, so Leon presses on, finding even tougher Ganados - mercs.

Island[]

Fighting through the island, Leon eventually finds a computer room, seeing Ashley in a prison cell on one of the monitors. As two Ganados throw her on the ground, they see the camera and turn them all off via switches. Leon later finds a radio tower and attempts to call for backup, which seems fruitless. He eventually finds a lab with a note from Luis, detailing the biology of Regenerators - slow but highly dangerous and robust zombie-like creatures that can regenerate lost limbs within seconds, and can only be killed if all its parasites are killed, which can only be seen via thermal vision. Leon finds an Infrared Scope for his rifle to kill them.

After a long and perilous search, Leon finds the switch to Ashley's cell door and locates her cell. After rescuing her, a paper aeroplane flies into the cell through the window. The writing on it says that there's an exit through the waste disposal, and is signed with a kiss with red lipstick. Leon and Ashley soon find the garbage dump, but Ashley is reluctant due to the smell. Leon smirks, grabs her hand, and jumps down into the pit. After landing on soft trash, Ashley voices her irritation, but Leon quips that he knew her butt would cushion her fall, before helping her up. However, they find two Iron Maidens - Regenerators with spikes protruding all over their bodies.

They escape, but soon encounter Saddler, who uses his telekinetic powers to communicate with their parasites, making Leon writhe in pain and hypnotising Ashley to come with Saddler. Meanwhile, at the radio tower, Ada tells Krauser that Leon isn't making it easy, while Krauser tells her that Saddler has the sample, that he figured out their little game. He then tells her that he and Wesker don't trust her, and will kill her if she double-crosses them. Ada smirks and says that she met Wesker long before him, before she leaves the tower.

As Leon traverses, he sees a figure charge him with a large knife, but he dodges, just narrowly getting cut on the right cheek. The figure says it's been a long time, calling Leon "comrade". Leon recognises him as Krauser, his old parter from his secret service days, whom allegedly died in a car crash two years ago. Leon realises it was Krauser who abducted Ashley from her uni. During a deadly knife fight with a few close calls, Krauser tells Leon that he wants the sample, confessing that he did it to earn Saddler's trust, due to being an American.

Annoyed, Leon asks if that was why he took Ashley, but Krauser says it was for Umbrella's sake. With Leon pinned down and disarmed of his knife, Krauser realises he said too much, before pinning Leon, but Ada appears and shoots Krauser's knife hefore he can stab Leon. Krauser flees, so Leon asks Ada why she's here, but she says she'll tell him another time, before leaving. Saddler calls Leon, asking if he enjoyed the reunion with Krauser, before telling Leon that "it" should keep him busy. Leon presses on, finding a laser room which leads directly to Saddler's throne room, before finding a large container hanging over an abyss.

Leon finds and kills the U-3, before finding Krauser, killing him as well. Saddler calls and thanks Leon for getting Krauser out of the way, confusing him. Saddler asks if he'd really ever trust an American, saying he was just a puppet, and telling Leon that he will be his personal guard once his parasite has matured. Leon presses on, seeing a chopper mow down some Ganados. Leon equips his earpiece and thanks the pilot, who introduces himself as Mike, but the chopper is soon blown up by a Ganado with an RPG-7. Saddler calls and mocks Leon, to which Leon calls him a bastard.

Shortly after, Ada finds Leon and softly asks if he's okay when he starts twitching, but he suddenly chokes her with a blank expression on his face. Ada panics and cuts his leg with her switchblade. Leon apologises and takes a pill, and Ada implores he remove his parasite, but Leon is steadfast on saving Ashley first. Still in shock, Ada splits up again. Leon soon finds Ashley unconscious in a large container, but Saddler attacks him. Ada arrives and blasts Saddler with a TMP; it barely hurts him, but distracts him enough to let Leon free Ashley and flee with her.

After a challenging fight, Ada is beaten by Saddler, who ties her up on the top deck. Meanwhile, Leon finds the device that kills the parasites, so he sits in it while Ashley operates. Once the parasite is successfully disintegrated, Ashley uses the machine, through it seems to almost kill her. After recovering, she hugs Leon, and they press on to an elevator. Leon tells Ashley to wait while he goes to the top deck, where he finds a barely-conscious Ada hanging by her waist. Saddler tries hypnotising Leon, but it fails, and Leon throws Krauser's knife at the rope, dropping Ada and freeing her. Saddler says that only in Hollywood movies does the hero save the day and rescue the girl.

Saddler becomes a giant monster, which Leon fights, before Ada throws him an RPG, just like she did in 1998. Leon blows up Saddler and takes the sample, but Ada points her gun at his head, apologising, though bluffing. Leon hands it to her and she runs to the edge, jumping onto her rescue chopper. She presses the button to blow the place up, but throws Leon the key to her jet-ski. Leon dashes to the elevator, grabs Ashley, and escapes with her. While riding into the sunrise, Ashley offers to have sex with Leon, but he seems uninterested. She then asks who that woman was, so he simply tells her that she's a piece of his life he just can't let go of.

Seperate Ways[]

In Separate Ways, Ada arrives in the village around the same time as Leon, intent on finding the sample. After stealthily taking out two Ganados, she is contacted by Wesker, who instructs her to ring the church bell to pacify the villagers. Suddenly hearing gunshots, she looks through her telescope, shocked to see the man that saved her life six years prior - Leon. With Leon being ambushed, Ada kills some Ganados without alerting him, before running to the church and ringing the bell, saving Leon.

Later, Ada is in the chief's house, searching for information about the villagers, when she receives another call from Wesker. He tells her that Luis Sera, their informant, has been captured by the Ganados and is being held in a cabin. Ada is sent to rescue him and arrives just in time to see Luis and Leon being moved to a new location. On her way back to the chief's house, she fights some Ganados, one of which is wearing Leon's jacket, which confuses her.

At the chief's house, Ada shoots him when she sees him attacking Leon inside the house through the window, so he jumps out the window to get her, but Ada flings herself out of his way with her grapple gun. However, as she runs away, she is cornered by Ganados, one of which shoots her with a tranquilizer dart. She later wakes up just in time to avoid being executed by an axe. Later in the evening, she meets Luis after the cabin assault. He says he is off to get the Plaga sample.

Later in the castle, Ada reveals herself to Leon, pointing her pistol to his back, before her overpowers her. After a brief conversation, she escapes to the hedge maze outside and receives another message from Wesker, telling her to get the sample from Luis, and to eliminate Leon if she encounters him. Whilst avoiding Leon, Ada sees Luis just in time to see Saddler kill him and take the sample. Ada informs Wesker that Luis is dead and Saddler has the sample. Wesker asks if she's had a chance to kill Leon, to which she lies and says no.

After Ada and Krauser's meeting in the island's radio tower, Wesker calls her as she walks away, telling her that Leon being alive has brought the advantage of him wiping out Saddler's army. He then says that Krauser is now under orders to assassinate Leon, stopping Ada dead in her tracks as her heart sinks. She runs to Leon's location and shoots the knife out of Krauser's hand, which was mere millimeters from Leon's chest. Once Krauser flees, Ada reports him dead to Wesker.

Later, she meets up with Leon who, being temporarily under his Plaga's control, attacks Ada. She snaps him out of it and they split up, but she is soon attacked by a mutated Krauser, as Leon only managed to injure him. Not wanting to deal with reporting a living man dead to Wesker, she finishes off Krauser once and for all. Ada then arrives through a balcony entrance in Ashley's containment room and distracts Saddler with her TMP while Leon and Ashley escape.

Thinking she had defeated Saddler, Ada attempts to retrieve the sample, only to be sneak-attacked and captured by Saddler. Being released from captivity by Leon, Ada races to obtain an RPG to assist the struggling Leon in battle. After the battle, Ada steals the sample from Leon. She then makes her escape from the island via a helicopter, giving Leon the key to a jet-ski.

In the last scene of Ada's Report, she states that the rival company wants the sample for themselves, that she was ordered to pretend to work with Wesker (which she found "entertaining"), and that she intends to send Wesker a different sample as ordered. She then states, "Wesker is not stupid, that he knows exactly what the organization is planning, and that the mission may be over, but the battle is just beginning."
