A new trailer of the game was released between on May 30. The trailer reveals the enemies attacking Chris with parasites which emerge from their mouths, with characteristics similar to the [[Las Plagas]] parasite and its victims. It was also revealed the mercenary woman character is new. In the most recent interview it has been revealed that the woman's name is Sheva, and that in an E3 demo video, that she is also working for the [[BSAA]]. There is also a new antagonist, though we do not know much about him, besides that he looks like a scientist who invented the new virus due to the fact he said, "You're just in time for the fireworks!" to some [[BSAA]] members. It is possible Umbrella is involved on the game. In one of the gameplays, [[Kirk]], a helicopter pilot that contacts with Chris sometimes, calls the flying enemies as "flying B.O.W.s". The flying enemies are the same parasites which emerge from enemies mouth, as in one gameplay, Chris blows the head of a enemy, and the flying creature emerge from his neck.

Few details have been released about the game's storyline other than the fact that the setting will have a similar feel to the movie Black Hawk Down.[1][2] Takeuchi added that the developing team is composed of staff members who worked on the first Resident Evil.[2] Despite the lack of information, he has stated that Resident Evil 5 will be an actual sequel to the Resident Evil series.[2] Before Takeuchi took over, the game's former producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi stated "it's safe to say that Resident Evil 5 will naturally proceed from where Resident Evil 4 left off."[3]

In a July 2007 Famitsu interview, producer Jun Takeuchi revealed the main playable character as Chris Redfield and the game takes place ten years after the events of the original Resident Evil. The story will explore Chris' life during the ten year interval between the two games.[4] During the game's events, he is a member of a group known as BSAA, and sent to investigate an incident in a desert area that serves as the game's setting.[5] Takeuchi also confirmed that a female character from the series, who is seen briefly at the end of the trailer, will appear in the game. [5] In an online interview translated and posted by Capcom, Takeuchi revealed that the game's plot will be set in Africa, and will concern "the origins of the virus."[6]

A new trailer of the game was released between on May 30. The trailer reveals the enemies attacking Chris with parasites which emerge from their mouths, with characteristics similar to the Las Plagas parasite and its victims. It was also revealed the mercenary woman character is new. In the most recent interview it has been revealed that the woman's name is Sheva, and that in an E3 demo video, that she is also working for the BSAA. There is also a new antagonist, though we do not know much about him, besides that he looks like a scientist who invented the new virus due to the fact he said, "You're just in time for the fireworks!" to some BSAA members. It is possible Umbrella is involved on the game. In one of the gameplays, Kirk, a helicopter pilot that contacts with Chris sometimes, calls the flying enemies as "flying B.O.W.s". The flying enemies are the same parasites which emerge from enemies mouth, as in one gameplay, Chris blows the head of a enemy, and the flying creature emerge from his neck.

It was revealed the name of the mysterious white-dressed woman: she is Excella Gionne, the responsible of the installation of a new company, the TriCell. It is unknown if she or the company has something with the parasites, but she is supposed to be Wesker's ally, who will also come back. Another new is the typewriter will not appear in the game. Now the player will save the game in checkpoints or chapter ends.

Gameplay

Jun Takeuchi, the game's producer, stated the Resident Evil 5 will feature similar gameplay to Resident Evil 4;[5] The player will control Redfield similarly to how the player controlled Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 4.[5] Both characters have weapons, one of their back, usually a sniper or shotgun, and a smaller and more compact weapon wielded, a handgun or a submachine gun. The game's environment will also play a significant role. For example, if Redfield suffers prolonged exposure to heat, he will begin to see mirages and hallucinations.[7] Also, the game implements various lighting effects. If Redfield moves between bright and dark areas his eyes will have to adjust, causing the player to briefly lose some visual of their surroundings. There will be a new pick-up animation where instead of seeing a screen while picking up items, you can see your character pick it up instead. The stats circle which showed your ammo and health in Resident Evil 4 is back, but modified into a smaller circle and depending on your character, will be in a different position, and can also show your current weapon. There will also be an online tag team in which there can be two players, one as Chris and one as Sheva. [5]

The game will also feature new types of enemies. The extended E3 trailer revealed several sequences involving Redfield attacking hordes of fleet-footed enemies,[8] who possessed melee weapons.[9] Takeuchi has also stated the game's enemies will also possess human-like intelligence and awareness. Furthermore, he stated they will be different from the previous zombies and ganados.[5] In an interview with Xbox360ism, Keiji Inafune briefly stated that the game will feature some online elements. In an E3 Resident Evil 5 Gameplay video, it shows a new enemy, similar to a cross of Axe Man and Dr. Salvador, wielding a giant and bloody ax about five feet long. [10]
