Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is set in mid-2017 around the southern United States, where there have been reports of "ghosts" sighted in the bayou.
Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour
The demo starts with the player waking up in a house, with the objective being to escape the house. After wandering around for a while and looking for the way out, the player comes across a video tape, titled "Derelict House Footage". After placing the tape in a tape player found in the house, the player watches the recording.
The recording starts on June 1st 2017, at 10:23pm. It is a rehearsal tape for the show Sewer Gators, investigating the "Dulvey Haunted House" with crew members cameraman Clancy Javis, anchorman Pete, and producer Andre. In order to rehearse for the show they decide to break into the house and investigate. They wander around the house, while Andre and pete converse a bit about the houses history. The house had been abandoned for three years, and was originally owned by the quiet Baker family, consisting of Jack and Marguerite, and their son Lucas. Lucas apparently had a reputation for being a bad seed.
Shortly after the dialogue, Andre wanders off and disappears. Pete and Clancy wander in further to search for Andre, and after some time wandering, end up finding a secret passage by activating a lever hidden in a fireplace. The secret passage leads to a ladder, which leads to an area below the house. Pete sends Clancy down first "To get a nice hero shot of him coming down the ladder". Upon reaching the bottom, Clancy finds Andre facing a wall on the other side of the room. Closer inspection him finds him to be a corpse, and he falls on top of the player. As Andre's body falls on Clancy, a man comes out of the shadows and moves toward them. The video cuts, with audio of screaming lingering for a few seconds. Afterwards the tape fully cuts.
The player, upon going for the same lever in the fireplace, opens the secret passage. The ladder is gone now, but a key to the back door is found in its place. Heading out the passage and towards the door shows a silhouette of a man passing by. Eventually making it to the back door and using the key puts you outside. Just before you can leave a man (Assumed Jack Baker) catches you and says "Welcome to the family, son" before punching you in the face and the player blacking out.
You wake up in a room tied to a chair with Pete on the floor. Pete finds a knife and attempts to cut your bindings to free you, but midway gets stabbed through the chest by a female. The female (Assumed Marguerite Baker) then moves towards you and the demo cuts with a close up of her face. A message stating "The Family is expecting you early 2017. "Open the Door to the "Resident Evil Ambassador Program" #re7" is then shown, and it ends.
