Resident Evil 7 is a Capcom Division 1 game which started development in 2012 while Resident Evil 6 was in late development.[1]
Development[]
Resident Evil 7 was produced by Masachika Kawata, who was to develop a game that would build upon the anticipated successes of Resident Evil 6. One of the core elements was a live-service aspect with microtransactions, part of Capcom's push to American-style video games development.[2] The project was ultimately shelved in 2013 following the mixed-reception of Resident Evil 6, which indicated another big-budget game of a similar style would be too risky. The project was replaced by Jun Takeuchi's own Resident Evil 7 project in January 2014.[3]
