The Rocket Launcher is a large, shoulder fired weapon that shoots powerful, high-explosive rockets. These weapons inflict massive damage to almost any creature. In the Resident Evil series, the rocket launcher is often acquired at the end of the games to use on the final boss. However, in some RE games these weapons can be bought using money. Typically, rocket launchers have only one rocket, and after shooting it the player will dispose of the weapon. However, rocket launchers with Infinite Ammo are often included in the games. The Infinite Ammo versions are acquired by accomplishing special requirements, or in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, they need to be bought at a very high price.

The Rocket Launcher (based on its design in RE5) appears as a weapon card in the Resident Evil DBG. It is the single most damaging weapon in the game by itself, and is capable of killing any Infected (and all opposing characters save for Wesker and Chris) instantly. Alongside the Gatling Gun, it is normally kept in the Mansion Area unless placed elsewhere by another scenarios rules. After a single use it is trashed, that is placed back in the Mansion. However, Jill Valentine is capable of using the Rocket Launcher infinitely due to her Level 2 effect and with increased damage due to her first effect.

Night-Scope-Rocket-Launcher

The Rocket Launcher appears again in the Nightmare expansion, this time as the Night Scope Rocket Launcher. This one costs 80 Gold and deals 60 damage without its effect but can deal 80 damage if the effect is used.

Trivia

  • The speed at which the rockets fired from all these Launchers travel is very slow compared to their real life counterpart; in game they all travel at a constant speed, while in real life they launched with an initial speed of about 300 m/s and increase their speed up to 900 m/s, probably detonating at this point.
  • In the main series games, the rocket launcher will make most of the enemies (Zombies, Cerberuses, Plaga infected humans) lose their limbs or at least their head when they're attacked with it. Strangely, the Infinite rocket launcher obtained in Resident Evil Remake will only make the zombies go into "invernate estate" which allows them to become a Crimson Head. The only kind of enemy whose body would get mutilated are the Cerberuses.
  • Even though the Rocket Launcher featured in the Outbreak series is the same model, it's more powerful in Resident Evil Outbreak, having a basic attack of 18000 damage, while its counterpart from Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 deals 8000 damage. However this last rocket launcher can damage two enemies at the same time.
