The SG-09 R is a weapon in Resident Evil 4.

Location[]

The SG-09 R is Leon Scott Kennedy's starting handgun for his mission of locating and rescuing Ashley Graham from her abductors. As such, it is unmissable.

Gameplay[]

Being the default handgun, the SG-09 R has underwhelming stats at level 1. The player will quickly learn to upgrade the handgun through the Merchant, allowing it to serve as a good all-round weapon. The handgun takes up six inventory spaces.

The SG-09 R is best used to stun an enemy with a shot to the head or leg, setting them up for a melee attack. This works to save ammo and can make up for the relatively low damage per shot which the gun has earlier on.

The SG-09 R has decent accuracy and precision ratings, making it easy to land difficult hits on moving enemies.

As the weapon is levelled up, it becomes more competent at dealing with individual enemies, but may still struggle with powerful enemies or large hordes, emphasizing the use of more powerful firearms.

The SG-09 R's exclusive perk increases the crit rate by 5x, meaning each shot is 5x more likely to be a critical hit. This makes it very useful for decapitating a normal Ganado, rendering them unable to mutate. This trait is shared with the deluxe edition exclusive pistol, the Sentinel Nine.

A Laser Sight can be obtained from the Trader for 10 Spinel. This add-on changes the reticle into laser and allows the gun to be always fully Focused no matter if the player is moving the reticle around or moving while aiming, giving it the benefit of eliminating Bloom (the spread of the shots inside the reticle) whilst always having a boost in critical and stagger chance. Needed for the challenge "Gun Fanatic".

The SG-09 R is one of the default weapon of Leon in The Mercenaries mode.
