- Scarmiglione is one of the twelve named Malebranche in the eighth Circle of Hell from Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Its name means "Trouble-maker".
- There is a CLUB96 file for the creature called "FILE 60: Scarmiglione". It was later translated for RE.NET.
