  • Sherry Birkin's storyline has had minor alterations over the years.
    • In the original Resident Evil 2 had two separate timelines (Claire A, Leon B and Leon A, Claire B) in which the same basic story would flow but with minor differences. In the "Claire A" story, Sherry falls down a chute in the sewers and passes out, allowing her father, William, to parasitise her with an embryo, infecting her with the G-Virus. Claire works with her mother, Annette, to inject her with the vaccine. Her immune system stops her mutating, and she recovers quickly. In "Claire B", Sherry does not fall down the chute, and so is never infected at all.
    • "The Little Runaway Sherry" (1999), set after the events of Resident Evil 2, had Sherry fleeing into the Arklay Mountains after Leon and Claire are confronted by people (whether USS or the US Army) looking for the G-Virus. In this story she flee a second outbreak, in Stone Ville, and escapes down-river with a girl named Meg. The Leon, Claire and Sherry epilogues of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis totally ignore this storyline, and Sherry is instead captured by US government agents with Leon, after Claire left to search for her brother.
    • Wesker's Report was first to explore the possibility of Sherry being a mutant in its ending, though otherwise followed the Claire B route in not directly stating beforehand she was parasitised. This story introduced the idea that Albert Wesker was somehow after her.
    • Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles largely followed the Claire A route in Sherry's story, with the inclusion of Leon and Ada within the group. The biggest addition was trying to explain the reason for Sherry's appearance in the Raccoon Police Station: that she was personally phoned by her mother out of school to get there for safety. However, this portrayal added more questions, as descriptions of violence implied it to be 24 September, well over a day since her father's shooting.
    • In Resident Evil 6 were joined various threads, confirming that Sherry is indeed a mutant, and the US government both used her for G research and kept her safe from abduction by groups loyal to Wesker.
    • In Resident Evil 2 remake version offered a re-telling of the 1998 game's story, and focused moreso on the Claire A route. Aside from the addition of an abduction storyline, the game negated Darkside Chronicle's additions by having Sherry go to the police station for safety when her mother failed to answer phone calls. When infected with G-Virus, her mother is the one to vaccinate her in Claire's story (she is vaccinated off-screen by Claire in Leon's story, where Annette dies).
  • Sherry's model appears to differ in Darkside Chronicles between gameplay and cutscenes. Her hair appears darker, almost brown, in gameplay but becomes the usual blonde in cutscenes. Also, her headband appears red in gameplay and pink in cutscenes.
  • Wesker's Report stated that Sherry was 'safe' in his hands, implying she was under his custody. However, the "Inside of Biohazard The Darkside Chronicles" book provided closure on this plot point by explaining that Wesker simply had spies in the government keeping an eye on her.
  • Despite implications that William had been calling out to Sherry in the original Resident Evil 2, he is only heard doing so in the non-canon events of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Darkside Chronicles and the prototype Biohazard 1.5. However, from the Resident Evil 2 remake version, William can be heard calling out to Sherry.
  • In the Echo Six DLC of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Sherry becomes aware that the creature chasing her is her father, William Birkin, something that didn't occur during the events of the original game. She did, however, learn of his identity afterwards as she is shown recalling his mutation as an adult in Resident Evil 6. Already in Resident Evil 2 remake, Sherry seems to have already known the creature is her father.
  • In Resident Evil 2, due to how the game handles hitboxing in regards to character models, Sherry (like other playable characters) has hitboxes despite there being no enemies present in her playable segment. If the player is able to noclip or break out of the Orphanage through glitching it's possible to encounter zombies and as a result have Sherry attacked by them. Should Sherry run out of health the game will softlock due to her lacking an appropriate death animation and the only option is to manually close the game.
