Skills are a new gameplay mechanic featured in Resident Evil 6. They take the place of the Merchant and the "Item Management" from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 respectively, allowing characters to upgrade abilities, weapons, or even alter the behavior of an AI partner for single-player.
Some skills are only unlocked after certain conditions are met such as killing a set number of enemies, getting a certain number of kills with a weapon-type or fully completing campaigns.
Skills can only be bought at the end of a chapter or in the main menu. Skill Points, which is the currency used to buy Skills, are shared between all characters and can be obtained by killing enemies or opening/breaking boxes in any game mode.

Equipping Skills[]
The player is able to create individual sets of skills. A set comprises three different skills equipped by a player (upgrades replace lower levels, so it is not possible to have J'avo Killer Lvl. and J'avo Killer Lv2. equipped simultaneously). To start, players are only be able to create one set. However, completing one campaign will unlock seven new sets of skill, with eight being the total.[1]
Sets can be changed and equipped at any moment by accessing the character's COMs Device. It should be noted however that the game will not pause while changing or equipping skills, so it leaves the player vulnerable if there are enemies around. Exclusive to the PC version is the option to press bound keys (defaulted to F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7 and F8) to equip the skill set immediately without having to go to the menu.
