Johannes Roberts
(Welcome to Raccoon City continuity)

The Spencer Mansion was a manor built in the Arklay Mountains, which served as both a secretive testing facility for Umbrella Corporation personnel, as well as the primary estate of the companies founder Oswald Spencer until his presumed death. After his death, his abode was considered abandoned and derelict by the majority of the public. During the t-Virus outbreak surrounding Raccoon City, the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.), a division of the local police department investigated the mansion following a body which was reported in the area.

The facility contained a number of integrated puzzles and secret passages. These secret hallways connected the mansion directly to the NEST facility that ran deep underneath Raccoon City and intersecting with other former Umbrella testing facilities in the city, such as the harvesting. These facilities were old and abandoned as Umbrella moved out of Racccoon in favor of a new facility, as such, they were rarely used for more than storing archival information—with the notable exception of Birkin's laboratory, which he used to conduct his primary research and storage of the G-Virus away from prying interests.[1]

Behind the Scenes[]

The filming of the exterior scenes of the Arklay Mountains and the entrance to the mansion took place outside Hanmer, Ontario (roughly 24 km north of Sudbury). Interior filming of the mansion took place later in Hamilton and Toronto, with some scenes (presumably) filmed at both The Scottish Rite Club and The Hamilton Club, while the rest of filming took place on various constructed sets on soundstages where reshoots were also handled.

In a later interview with director Johannes Roberts, it was claimed that the film crew had "worked hand-in-hand with Capcom, to the point that we actually got blueprints from them on the designs of the Spencer Mansion and Raccoon Police Station (Roberts) in order to recreate them as perfectly as we could. We even have the exact artwork up on the mansion walls. Capcom saw it for the first time the other day and was so happy and excited. And that - as a nerd - made me so happy and excited!"
