T-00, nicknamed "Mr. X", was a Tyrant T-103 sent into Raccoon City during the 1998 Raccoon City Destruction Incident. T-00 was one of six within the T-103 series that were airlifted into the city, and was given instructions to recover a G-Virus sample from the pendant of Sherry Birkin and kill surviving officers of the Raccoon Police Department [1] where it began a hunt of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield who were trying to escort Sherry to safety.

Biography

Mission Preparation

Following the demise of the UBCS, Article 12 of Umbrella's Internal Emergency Procedures was enacted, and all materials and personnel still within the city were placed under the command of Colonel Sergei Vladimir.[1] When it was discovered Delta Force had infiltrated Umbrella's facilities, Col. Vladimir prepared an SH-60B Seahawk for B.O.W. deployment.

Operation Raccoon City

T-00 was dropped near the Raccoon Police Station with its own assignments. It had two orders: first, to eliminate any police survivors,[1] and second, to locate the G-Virus.[2][excerpt 1]

Exploring the station, he located and killed Ben Bertolucci. T-00 then ran into survivors Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, and stalked both of them through the police station. T-00 managed to grab Leon when the officer tried to exit the parking garage, but was briefly incapacitated when he was hit by a SWAT van driven by Ada Wong, before the van exploded, allowing Leon and Ada to flee. He then briefly pursued Claire when she came through the parking garage, chasing her through the streets of Raccoon City. Following her to the nearby orphanage, T-00 ambushed Claire and Sherry Birkin. Chasing them through the basement of the orphanage, T-00 managed to corner them within an elevator leading to the sewers. While attempting to tear the elevator open, T-00 was ambushed and torn nearly completely in half by a heavily mutated William Birkin.

A second "Mr. X" T-103 had been sent to sewers to recover the G-virus samples carried by HUNK's team. This Mr. X first confronted Ada in the sewers. He then made his way to the NEST, presumedly to reach the last sample of the virus stored there. While in NEST, an automated alert was caused by Leon killing Plant 42. Targeting the rookie cop, Mr. X attacked Leon, before following his escape. Despite this, Leon again managed to evade him, acquired the G-virus sample, and accidentally activated the facility's self destruct when he started to make his escape. During this escape, Mr. X again ambushed Leon, but was severely damaged when a room he was chasing the cop through exploded. This burned off his power-limiting coat and he mutated into his Super Tyrant form. He tried one final time to eliminate Leon, ambushing him on an elevator to the lower railroad lines, but was finally killed by a rocket launcher dropped to Leon by Wong.

Further notes

  • T-00 has been given a number of nicknames over the years. Claire refers to it as "Mr. X" in the novelization of Resident Evil 2, along with "Doctor Evil". "Mr. X" was also used in other U.S. merchandising for Resident Evil 2, such as action figures and comic books. In the English version of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, it was nicknamed "Trenchy" by Leon, though he calls him "Coated Bastard" (コート野郎) in the Japanese script.
  • In the original Resident Evil 2, once the T-00 is downed players will be able to pick up ammunition on certain occasions by examining his body. This only works in the story mode.
  • The inclusion of a fedora to the T-00's outfit in the remake was to emphasize its intended purpose for covert operations. The T-00 was also made physically shorter for the same purposes, as it now appears more human from a distance.[3]
  • In the remake, the T-00 has a more tempered personality. During its pursuit of the player, it'll frequently crack its neck and show subtle signs of irritation when presented with resistance or receiving damage. This temper is shown if the player shoots off his hat, causing him to charge for the player, instead of his usual walking pace. While in its Super Tyrant form, it will roar furiously at the player multiple times during their final encounter with it.
  • T-00 originally only chased and followed the character used in the B Scenario and would not be seen entirely by the other character in the A Scenario.
  • Additionally, the T-00 would lose its coat after falling in a smelting pit. In Claire B, the Tyrant is chasing Sherry Birkin for the G-Virus within her pendant, allowing Claire to toss it into the smelting pot with the Tyrant joining the pendant shortly. In Leon B, Leon is cornered by the Tyrant and is rescued by Ada, who fires multiple shots to the Tyrant's face, eventually causing to fall into the pot, but it is able to wound Ada severely.
  • The T-00's final encounter would also be near the emergency train itself, obstructing the B Scenario's character from boarding the train after they finish connecting the plugs to open the railway's gate. Like the remake, the Tyrant would be blown to bits by a Rocket Launcher tossed in by Ada Wong.
