(Welcome to Raccoon City continuity)
T-virus is an engineered retrovirus developed by the Umbrella Corporation from the 1960s to 1990s as a biological weapon. It causes a disease which induces cannibalistic violence in humans, and was responsible for the 1998 viral outbreak in Raccoon City.
Symptoms[]
T-virus spreads by fluid contact, such as drinking contaminated water or infected saliva passing into a wound. The virus disease is known to spread more slowly in people infected by drinking water, with symptoms such as hair loss, subconjunctival hemorrhaging, and skin irritation possibly brought on by deterioration of the dermal tissue. Over time, this leads to mental decline in the form of delirium, which deteriorates further to violence actions. Those suffering from prolonged exposure are known to experience both bloating and whitening of the skin.[1]
The progression of the disease is considerably faster in those who were infected from contaminated saliva, likely due to a higher viral load. In both cases the result of the mental deterioration is the victim developing cannibalistic, murderous impulses and losing their ability to reason and be reasoned with; in the former, this can take as long as a month, and in the latter mere hours.
