A hospital transformed into some kind of hive full of squirming things. We pushed on and pushed the repulsive image from our minds.

The Hive (巣窟 Sōkutsu?) is the third scenario featured in Resident Evil Outbreak. It takes place predominantly in the Raccoon General Hospital and the sewers below. The Japanese name for this scenario means "den" or "haunt", which fit with the scenario's main enemy-the leeches-who reside mainly in a colony, with its "leech man" stalking survivors.

Plot

The Raccoon city citizens find themselves taking shelter at the besieged Raccoon General Hospital. Congregating on Room 301, Dr. Harsh walks in on them, somewhat surprised that there are still people here. Admitting that the hospital isn't a safe place to be, he suggests they leave. However, power has gone down to a number of systems shortly after the survivors used the elevator to get to the third floor.[excerpt 1] Harsh succeeds in re-activating power to the systems, but is attacked by a congregation of leeches, which have been drawn to his wound. He is engulfed by the creatures and used as a body for them.

Hursh: Oh I apologize if I surprised you, please do not be alarmed.
I'm a doctor in this hospital.
I must say this hospital is not an ideal place to take shelter.
Its not as safe as it may look or sound.
I myself have decided to get out of here as soon as possible.

Hursh: ああ……驚かせてすまない
僕は、この病院の医者だ
ても、君たちも都合の悪いときに
逃げ込んで来たもんだね
僕も、早くここから逃げ出そらと
思ってるんだよ……

Oh... sorry for surprising you.
I'm a doctor of this hospital.

Walkthrough

The survivors start the level in the room 301, for ranking points, a player must go between the two beds in the sound wall and press the "nurse call button". When the player heads for the exit, Harsh a doctor in the hospital appears and tells the survivors that the elevator doesn't work. After he leaves the room, the player must follow him to the hallway. In the 3F hallway, the player must head ahead until reaching the room 302. After entering, the player will find the Male Nurse's Diary on a bed and between both beds, an Stick and near a Locker, a Crutch which is recommended to equip it ASAP. The player must open the Locker and after doing so, he'll find a Handgun, no shortly after, the Leech Man will come down one of the air ducts and will attack the player. Is strongly recommended for the player to use their new Crutch by attacking it and getting out of the room. Again in the 3F Hallway, the player must go to the Nurse's Station. Inside the Nurse's Station the player can find several items such a Hospital's blue print that the character will memorize it and will obtain a Map (unless playing as George as he'll know the hospital), the Repair Work Memo. The player must move to the baricade where a short cutscene will play where Harsh will meet his final destiny by the hands of the Leech Man. After this cutscene, a nurse will reanimate as a Zombie and Harshe will be mysteriously missing along the Leech Man; the player now can go over the baricade to obtain a First Aid Spray(normal and easy modes), two very important Blood Infusion Packs and can use the elevator

Now, the elevator will be working, however it will only head to the 1F and the B1F levels. To unlock the BF2 and the Rooftop, a player must go to the B1F. in BF1, there are two rooms: The Reposing room where the player will find a Typewriter, a Scurb Brush and a First Aid Spray; while in the other room is the player's destination, the Ev Control Room. Inside of it, a player has to put an two passcodes for the elevator in order to move on to the BF3 and the Hospital's Rooftop. Inside the room, the player will find: the Setting Manual, and Leeches in the console to put the passcodes; Is recommended to the players to put the Infusion Blood Packs in the floor that will atrack the leaches nearby as well the Leech Man that will come down the ventilation holes as soon the players arrive. the Blood pack will slow down the enemies for a whole minute allowing the players to put the following passcodes.

Passwords
  1. 3555
  2. 5315
  3. 8211
  4. 0930 (Rooftop passcode)

The combinations will be set randomly by the game's set; After putting the right codes, the player must head to the elevator and get to BF2. As soon the player is on the BF2 hallway, they shall go to the room across the B2F passway. In the room, they'll find the Researcher's Diary, the Investigation Request files and a freezer that has 2 Infusion Blood Packs. After picking any derised items, the players shall head to door near the dried up cadaver and enter the Fixed Temperature Experiment room where they will find a Hemostatic. Oddly, this is the only secure room in the hospital and the Leech Man might not show up, unless the player places a Blood pack inside of the experiment room. After doing so, the player must head outside that room and wait for the Leech Man to appear. As soon the Leech Man appears, it will head to the Blood and a player must activate the temperature to 'High'. After a cutscene, the player have to set the temperature to 'Low' that will make the Keycard Level 2 be accessible to the players. If a player presses X on the Leech Man's corpse, they'll notice it's true identity and if a player presses the AB-Lib, the characters will make coments on the Creature's identity.

Now having the Keycard Level 2 is recommended to go back the BF2 and head down to the Hall's bottom, to the door where a Zombie resides (( The Zombie is a Permanent Zombie, meaning no matter how many times a player would kill it for good, it will not go away and reanimate after a short period of time)) and use their keycard. The player now would have to go to the Rooftop to get supplies. In the roof, the player will find several Crows as well some Herbs (( In Hard and Very Hard modes, zombies will be present in the rooftop, making it a dangerous room, and after a player calls the elevator, a zombie will come out the elevator attacking the player)). One of the last Raccoon City Police Department officer is in the rooftop. If a player has Cindy or Kevin as a character, the Dying police officer will mistake Cindy with his special one "Maggie" and give her the MP5 and ammo for it as a parting gift. If the player has Kevin as the character, he will say that the last chopper left and just gives him the MP5 and dies(( in Hard and Very Hard mode, the cop will give both characters the Burst Handgun with no ammo)). Now the player must go on a crusade to obtain the last key item, the Keycard Level 1

The player must head to the elevator and go to the 2F, if the player needs any health items, they shall head to Room 202. For making points, the player must head to the Nurse's Station and check the glass cupboard. As soont the player checks it, few leeches will attack the player causing them to enter in a Bleeding status which can be stopped with a Hemostat, a First Aid Spray or to walk down the room to a machine located near the blood freezer that will stop the bleeding and give the players points for it; Inside the room, the player will find: A Handgun, Handgun ammo, two blood infusion packs and the Chemical Code Message file in the cupboard where the leeches attacked before ((Note: The leeches that attacked the player can be killed with an stomp, however in hard and very hard modes, for a leech a player kills, another will land from the ceiling)). Back to the 2F hall, the player can find stairs that will lead them to the 1F passway where they'll find a door with a shutter blocking it and an Iron Pipe near the stairs. Enter the Night Reception Room where the player can remove the lock from the shutters blocking the two doors in the first floor by pressing the controls in the front desk. In the back of the room, the player can find the Burst Handgun and an Unknown Survivor. If a player talks to him, it will ask for Hemostat, however once the player has one and returns, the Survivor will be dead ((Note: The Unknown Survivor will be sometimes in the Waste Liquid Disposal Room and dead at times the player arrives; Also in Hard and Very hard modes, the players wont find the Burst Handgun, but a simply Butcher's Knife.)) If the player has Mark, they can get the Security Guard Manual file, which is needed to earn a 100% competition rate and points. Now exit the room and head to the door next to and press the shutter's lock, which will enable the door. Now the player is on the famous Hospital's main hall from Resident Evil 3 and must head to the double door and unlock its shutter that allows them to enter the Waiting room. Inside the waiting room, a Zombie Dog (the only one from this level) will burst from the window looking for an unfortunate prey. This enemy could be finished off with a shoulder ram and them be stomped until death, another zombie will be present in the room, however it will stand on its place behind a shutter and it wont be a threat to the player (the player cannot kill it as well). In the next room, the Examination Room, the player can find a First Aid Spray, a Blue Herb and the quested Keycard. After obtaining the Keycard, a nearby zombie will reanimate and attack the player. If supplies are needed, the player must go to the Treatment Room (located in the bottom right of the Examination room) where they'll find Four Recovery Medicine Base, an Hemostat and a Typewriter. Now exit the room and go to the upper part of the examination room passing down the windows, but a player must remind caution as an special zombie will burst from the windows. This zombie will try grab the player and if it success on doing so, it will drag to the player to an imminent death. The next door will be the Nurses' Locker room where most players except for Mark, can find shelters inside the lockers. Also the player will find: A Scrub Brush, a Red Herb, and in the next locker, a zombie will be in the locker and attack the player. In the place were it was, the player can find Handgun ammo.((Note: Alyssa can open the locker next to the locker where the zombie pops out to obtaion the Handgun Magazine giving the players competition rate points and Cindy can obtain the Fishnet Tights in Hard mode where the zombie pops out)). Old players will find nostalgic the way back to the elevator as they must go through the Hospitals main hall to the Office where they'll find the Part Of Memo file and in the Doctor's Station the classic Blue Herb, an Anti Virus Large and Handgun ammo.

Back in the B1, the player must head down the corridor and use the Keycard Level 1. As entering the South Passway, a zombie will be near the boilers as well an Iron Pipe ((Note: the Leech Man and leachers will be absent in this room, however zombies will break in the room if the player stays too long)). Head to the other end and reach the Waste Liquid Disposal Room where more leeches will be waiting for the player to come, near the door, the player will find a Green Herb. The player must head down the stairs and grab the Handgun ammo and wade through the water until reaching the other side, where the Chain Key is located. the player must be careful as the zombie could get the player and bite them. After obtaining the Chain Key, the player must go back to BF2 and go across the hallway to enter the Underpass Entrance. When the Key is used, a cutscene will play showing how the player unlocks the chain on the docked boat. In the Room, the player can find a First Aid and Hand Gun ammo. If ready, the player must check the Boat and get in it for the final boss battle.

Further notes

  • The Leech Zombie will haunt the players through every room via the ventilation system, regardless the difficulty it wont be able to reach the rooftop. In easy and normal modes this would be the only "safe area" from the hospital however in Hard and Very Hard difficulties zombies will come from the elevator and the Crows will respawn every minute.
  • In Hard and Very Hard modes, if a player kills a leech, another will drop from the cealing as respawning.
  • Cindy and Kevin will only receive the Sub Machine gun from the Dying police officer; This weapon is recommended for the Giant Leech boss, as it will cause Zero dammage to the Leech Zombie (0HP), however in Hard and Very Hard modes, they will only receive a Burst Handgun instead.
  • Randomly, players will find an undentified civilian within the hospital's instalations. If players find him before getting the BF2 card, he will be alive and request an Hemostat to stop his bleeding, regardless the player tries to get him the medicine or not, he will be found dead (this also happens in Hellfire scenario, where the one of the two last survivors in the building are agonising and makes a comment on the "strange creatures with a sharp tounge like an spear ", but this survivor will die if the player keeps talking to him.
  • Of all the elevator's passcodes, the only one that won't ever change is the Rooftop pass code.
  • The diaries found in this scenario serve as items, taking space in the character's item slots, however they have no use and will be stored in the Files.
  • Meelee weapons are recommended to be used in this scenario, leaving the fire weapons for the boss battle.
