The Tiger I, officially designated the Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E, is a German tank which served in the Heer during the Second World War. The Tiger I has a mass of 54-57 tonnes, was equipped with an 88mm gun and had an armour of 102mm thickness.
At some point in the decades following the conflict, Alfred Ashford, 7th Earl Ashford, came into possession of a Tiger I and had it parked at Rockfort Island's Military Training Center. It covered a manhole leading to a private hangar.
