Tyrant Armored Lethal Organic System, also known as "T-A.L.O.S.". Considered to be the pinnacle of the B.O.W. program of Umbrella Pharmaceutical, Inc., as well as the last Umbrella B.O.W. to be developed. Based on a Tyrant with an enhanced intelligence control system (Armoured Computer Control) which provides remote computer control capabilities via chips implanted in its brain. T-A.L.O.S. was designed to be the most effective and versatile B.O.W. on the battlefield with a wide array of attachments and capabilities on the field. Like the Nemesis T-Type and most other specialized B.O.W.s, T-A.L.O.S.' name seems to be inspired from Greek mythology.

History

Following a successful experiment with the Tyrant (T-002 Type) in the 1990s, the Arklay B.O.W. research team proposed a new next-generation bio-organic weapon system. Using a Tyrant (no. T-011) as the base organism, a prototype was initially developed at the Arklay Research Facility. The ultimate goal of the project was to develop a B.O.W. controlled by a computer system via chips implanted in the brain which can allow the Tyrant to be controlled through a wireless connection, while also outfitting the Tyrant with a wide variety of advanced weaponry and armour built out of a special metallic alloy which also restrains runaway t-virus mutation.

Following the outbreak disaster in the Arklay Research Facility in May 1998, Ozwell E. Spencer gave the order for Sergei Vladimir to retrieve the T-A.L.O.S. prototype from the facility before the order to destroy the facility given by the Umbrella board of directors was carried out. On the night of July 24, shortly before the arrival of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team, Sergei and his Ivan bodyguard Tyrant successfully retrieved the prototype, and development was promptly transferred and continued at the newly-constructed Caucasus Research Facility.

At the Caucasus facility, T-A.L.O.S. was synchronized with the "RED QUEEN" artificial intelligence computer system after it was retrieved from Raccoon City prior to the sterilization operation on October 1, 1998. Red Queen was able to interface with the Tyrant directly and control every aspect of its body as well as its abilities and decisions in battle situations, using its own massive tactical database to decide upon the best course of action in a combat scenario.

T-A.L.O.S. was ultimately destroyed on February 18, 2003 by Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine after Sergei Vladimir activated the prototype ahead of schedule to engage the two head on in combat before the arrival of the Russian government. As they fought the beast, the Red Queen guided its actions. Eventually with too much damage sustained, the t-virus caused the Tyrant to mutate, and it became a huge behemoth of a monster completely lacking a lower body and suspended on the ceiling by its spine. Unable to move effectively and limited by its small environment, the prototype Tyrant was at the mercy of the two humans attacking it despite being a formidable foe and was subsequently slain.

With the loss of T-A.L.O.S., their last "ace in the hole", Umbrella's B.O.W. program quickly stagnated, foreshadowing the imminent demise of the company.

Attributes

T-A.L.O.S. was outfitted with a state-of-the-art missile launcher, which allows it to reach distant targets and a protective metal armor encasing virtually its entire body. This armor was designed with a special metallic alloy which allows it to defend itself from not only explosions and gunfire, but also restrain runaway t-virus mutation. Despite the heavy load, the creature maintained ample speed. To compensate for the intensive weight of the missile launcher, its left arm was enlarged to balance its body. Its spine was also infused with cybernetics on top of its nervous system, granting it enhancements to its dexterous body which the t-virus alone would not be able to provide. Its cardiovascular system was also artificially improved with to grant it mobility not possible in a natural organism. The Tyrant itself is distinguishable by its dark blue skin complexion and bright red eyes.

Despite being a humanoid B.O.W., it has enough armor, firepower and abilities to easily stand against a Special Forces unit or a tank. Although, its overall effectiveness in combat wanes in situations involving mobile aerial targets such as attack helicopters. Due to its prototype status, it also has several large red-colored weak-points on several positions around its body including the chest cavity and shoulders.

T-A.L.O.S.'s main components are:

  • Synapse Connector
  • Cranial Unit
  • Sensory Unit
  • Circulatory Unit
  • Structural Unit
  • Control Unit
  • Armor Unit (8)
  • Rocket Launcher

Namesake

T-A.L.O.S take it's namesake from a giant made of bronze that protected the island of Europa in Crete, circling the island's shores three times each day to patrol it. In the tale of Jason and the Argonauts, it threatens Jason's ship, the Argo, by throwing rocks from the shores of Europa. It was slain by a sorceress named Medea, a member of the Argonauts, by driving it mad with drugs or deceiving it into removing a bronze nail that held it's single vein shut, thus making it bleed to death.[1]

Trivia

  • T-A.L.O.S's Rocket Launcher is not unlike the M-202 FLASH Rocket Launcher
