Tyrant / Mr. X is an action figure which was manufactured and sold by Toy Biz in May 1998. It is based on "T-00", a boss encountered in Resident Evil 2 which is capable of transforming into a "Super Tyrant".
Features[]
The toy's primary feature is snap on armor that consists of the Super Tyrant's arms and head piece. In addition, the clothing items for the standard form can be removed and is actually required for it to change forms. The Jacket is made from a leathery material and it can be buttoned and unbuttoned as well as removed. Most of the other clothing accessories, as well as the Super Tyrant parts, are made of a very flexible plastic that can handle a fair amount of abuse, which is good because the clothing items can be difficult to take off the first time around fresh out of the package. The clothing items consist of the limiter coat, boots, and a belt. Caution should be advised while handling the coat as leather particles tend to shave off onto one's hands and the stitching may become frayed in places.
For a 3-inch figure, the articulation is surprisingly good. Ball joints at the shoulders allow for decent movement of the arms, even with the coat on. Leg articulation consists of joints at the knees and standard hip joints that can move backward and forward to an extent. Once again, the leather coat allows for almost completely free movement of these joints. The head can be swivelled left or right but not very far allowing for some head poseability. The waist may also be swivelled left to right as well, though the coat may restrict this some.
The snap on body parts for the super tyrant form are surprisingly light, keeping the Tyrant from becoming too top heavy. The Super Tyrant arms do somewhat limit the poseability of the shoulders, but not extremely.
Prototypes[]
The Prototypes of the figure can be seen on the back of the card (see the gallery below). It shows better paint detailing and more vibrant coloring for the Super Tyrant and a longer coat for the standard form. The coat is also made of a much more expensive looking material than the one packaged. In addition, the boots, belt, and gloves of the standard tyrant appear to lack paint detailing of the final, going for a silver color rather than a bronze and green color scheme that the final uses for these parts.
