The central puzzle allowing passage to the tramway in the castle involving the goat, lion and serpent wall reliefs is a depiction of a Chimera, a mythological beast of ancient Greece with the heads of a lion and a goat, with its tail being the head and body of a snake. While U-3 doesn't resemble the creature physically, it does fulfills the technical definition of a Chimera in the sense that it is a horrific fusion of three separate creatures; a human, a lizard, and an insect.
U-3's name possibly makes reference to the fact that three different species were used to make this creature's DNA.
