U-8 (short for "Ultimate-8") was a type of bioweapon developed by Tricell through the use of its genetically-altered Plaga parasites, though whether it relied on Type-2 or Type-3 is unknown. This creature was able to give birth to smaller creatures unrelated to the U-8's body design. The U-8 should not be confused with U-3, a creature designed by Los Iluminados several years earlier.
The U-8 was a horrific, crab-like mutant that was created by Tricell's enhanced Plagas, but the type and implementation are unknown. It could birth tiny, flying crablets from its abdomen. However, these flying creatures were not larvae of U-8, but were completely different creatures altogether. A U-8 was released in the Tricell Africa facility to hunt down and kill Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar, and attacked them on the revolving elevator.

History
The creature was defeated after its weak spot, a differently-colored area of its front legs, was damaged. This caused the creature to lose balance. A grenade being thrown into its mouth three times is also enough to kill the beast. It can also be defeated by shooting the exposed area after it swallows a grenade or by shooting a rocket at its mouth. This is if you want to kill it faster, but grenades may be unlimited in just this fight.

The U-8 was probably not related to the similarly-named monster, the U-3, which was fought by Leon S. Kennedy in 2004, if for no other reason than because the U-8 was invented by Tricell and the U-3 was created by Los Illuminados' horrific gene splicing experiments.

It may be one of the largest and strongest monsters in the Resident Evil series (apart from Uroboros Aheri); it is said to have an extremely resistant exoskeleton and enough strength to penetrate a light tank's armor with a single hit from its legs. The U-8 encountered in-game, however, was easily defeated by Redfield and Alomar because of its imperfect one-layer exoskeleton. However, Tricell did make U-8 with armor covering it's weak spots. This was Tricell's last creation; known that there were other U-8 experiments, but this one was stronger because of its size and its armor. The last U-8 is slow though, because all of the armor puts heavy weight on it.

The U-8 has its own file in the Library menu. It is the only monster to have this honor apart from the plot-central Uroboros. Note that the "U" in U-8 stands for "Ultimate", not Uroboros.

U-8 Drones
The Drones were flying B.O.W.s that resided in the part of U-8's abdomen originally intended for the maturation of eggs in an unaltered specimen. These flying B.O.W.s are not larval U-8s, but completely different creatures entirely.

It appears the drones are designed to replenish ammunition and hand grenade supplies more than its intent to be a challenge.

Strategy
The U-8 can be a tough boss mostly because of its resilience and its very strong attacks. In order to defeat it, continuously move and fire at its mouth or the small, red-colored section of its legs. Firing at the mouth is advised because the area of the legs is small and while the U-8 moves, it is difficult to aim at them. When it closes its mouth, however, you have to fire at the legs. You can also try throwing a grenade into its mouth, which, if you are lucky, will cause significant damage. When it collapses because of gunfire, try throwing a game-given grenade in its mouth. Avoiding its attacks will grow more difficult, but if you constantly move in circles around the platform's pole you will avoid some hard hits, although it will follow you. His least dangerous attack is the launching of small infected flies which you can avoid by constantly moving and, whenever you can, shooting at the flies with a shotgun if you have one. Repeat this strategy until U-8 is finished.
