The Umbrella Chemical Plant was was a large factory in Raccoon City, a midwestern mountain town. The factory, which focused on chemical manufacturing, was at the heart of the city's industrial sector to the north-east, populated by other facilities owned and operated by Umbrella U.S.A. and Umbrella Pharmaceuticals. The factory was a major employer in the city in the mid 1990s, and was used as a cover for the research staff at the secret underground laboratory located nearby.[note 1]
