VR Mode is an option available for the PS4 version of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in which the player can play the entirety of the main campaign as well as the two campaign DLCs (Not A Hero and End of Zoe) using the PS VR headset.
Differences from standard version[]
Movement[]
For the most part, movement remains largely the same, utilising the Duelshock 4 controller for all actions. The main difference here however is that the player's reticle now follows their head movements to aim where they are looking. This is used to aim all weapons as well as to guard.
As well as this, all cutscenes and predetermined movement is accompanied by a fade to black before it happens (see example below). This is because otherwise, quick jerky movement can increase the likelihood that the player will suffer from motion sickness.
Note: the right analogue stick may still be used to move the camera, but can only do so along the x-axis (ie, left to right, but not up or down) and do so in increments to once again reduce the chance of motion sickness - though it is recommended the player simply turns physically to aim where they would like to go.
Inventory[]
Aesthetically looks identical to the standard version, though it is now directly in front of the player's view when opened. In addition to this, when an item is examined it will be done so in 3D to the player.
Health[]
Because of the impracticalities of it, there are no blood on the edges of the screen in VR mode when the player takes damage - instead the screen will glow red slightly. This means the player will need to rely on looking at their Genome Codex a lot more for information on their status.
Due to character model limitations of the time, the player cannot have their leg cut off by enemies that would otherwise be able to do so outside of VR Mode.
