Episode 1: Into the Depths is the introductory chapter to Resident Evil: Revelations.

Plot[]

BSAA agents Jill Valentine and her new partner, Parker Luciani board the Queen Zenobia in search for their comrades, Chris Redfield and his partner Jessica Sherawat, who have been reported to have gone missing at those coordinates earlier in the day. Searching the ship, they find the place to be deserted, bar a few corpses. Soon after, however, the pair is attacked by an Ooze in the crew kitchen.

In a news report, it is shown to be the one year anniversary of the 2004 Terragrigia Panic, when the bioterrorist organization, Il Veltro launched an attack on the technologically advanced aquapolis. After the involvement of the BSAA and the United States' Federal Bioterrorism Commission, it was later decided by the FBC that the city's solar energy array be used against the city, itself, destroying it an the Hunter B.O.W.s running rampant.

Earlier in the day, Jill and Parker meet with the BSAA director, O'Brian at a beach on the exclusion zone overlooking the remains of Terragrigia. Over the past several weeks, mysterious carcasses have been washing up, and O'Brian believes it to be related to the events of 2004. A short time into the investigation of the bodies, Jill recovers a vial containing a mutagenic virus, confirming O'Brian's suspicions.

Transcript[]

A small boat is seen riding through stormy weather. The on-screen text reads:
"6:08 P.M."
"Mediterranean Sea"

Scene-cut to inside the boat; Jill Valentine looks down at her handgun.

The boat moves closer to a large ship. Jill goes outside onto the front deck to examine the ship from up-close.

The ship's name comes into view.

  • Parker Luciani: "The Queen Zenobia?"

"This thing is lucky to be afloat."

  • Jill Valentine: "Take us around. Let's find a boarding point."

Moving to the stern, Jill and Luciani board the ship via BSAA-branded grappling hooks.

  • Jill Valentine: "It's been 94 minutes since Chris and Jessica dropped off the radar."

  • Parker Luciani: "But the interpolation from their last known coordinates puts them---"

  • Jill Valentine: "---Right here on this ship."

{Gameplay}

The stormy weather causes Jill to temporarily loose footing

  • Parker Luciani: "Jill, you Okay?"

Examining the locked door into the ship

  • Jill Valentine: "I might be able to shoot it off."

The two enter a room filled with cardboard boxes

  • Parker Luciani: "What a stench."

  • Jill Valentine: "It's been abandoned for awhile."

If you examine the body near the door:

  • Jill Valentine: "It smells like rotting flesh."

Continuing down a hallway, the occasional moan can be heard.

  • Parker Luciani: "No signs of life, but I feel like something's here."

Jill sees a humanoid figure walk past the other side of the cardboard boxes in front of her.

  • Jill Valentine: "Hey!"

  • Parker Luciani: "What? What happened?"

  • Jill Valentine: "I don't think we're alone."

Examining a blocked part of the hallway:

  • Jill Valentine: "There's blood coming from the ducts!"

The corpse of a man in a life jacket falls out from the vent.

Jill and Parker reach the kitchen, where the floor is bloodstained around a drain and a man's corpse lays on a counter.

  • Parker Luciani: "Jill, take a look at this."

  • Jill Valentine: "Parker, give me a hand here."

  • Parker Luciani: "Sure, no problem."

{Cutscene}

Parker opens the drain. Jill proceeds to use the scanner device to look into the hole. She finds a handgun

  • Jill Valentine: "I got something. I think it's a gun."

  • Parker Luciani: "Now what?"

  • Jill Valentine: "Give me a sec."

Jill moves closer to the hole and sticks her arm in. Parker retches at the smell coming out of the hole. Jill pulls out the handgun... with a hand still attached.

  • Parker Luciani: "So it's not Chris."

The scene cuts to POV shot of a creature in the room, which watches the two BSAA agents from behind Jill. The Ooze stands up while Jill continues looking at the hand. She turns around as it roars.

{Cutscene}

The BSAA agents walk towards the creature's body as it bleeds out every drop of blood in its body in the Resident Evil tradition.

  • Parker Luciani: "This explains our missing crew."

  • Jill Valentine: "This is not good. Where are you, Chris..."

The scene blackens, only to be replaced by the game's logo and the level title.

The scene cuts to a news report for "NTS". A blonde woman - the reporter - strolls along an empty Mediterranean beach.

The scene cuts to a recording of a press conference by the Federal Bioterrorism Commission; a shot of the F.B.C.'s materiel and to a room within their facility. Agents Raymond Vester and a younger Parker Luciani are seen talking.

  • Reporter: "The F.B.C., the world's leading counter-bioterror organization operates under the auspices of the US, was called in to direct efforts to contain the attack.

The scene cuts to another NTS news report. The banner reads:

{Cutscene ends}

{Cutscene}

Clive R. O'Brian is shown looking out to the ruins of Terragrigia. Two people walk into view behind him.

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "Ah, there you two are."

  • Parker Luciani: "O'Brian! You don't normally join the fray."

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "Well, my doctor told me I need the exercise. I assume you both know that the F.B.C. has cordoned off the entire area."

Text appears on the screen reading:

3:50 P.M.

Mediterranean Sea Coast.

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "However, the past few weeks a number of mysterious carcasses have washed up."

  • Parker Luciani: "I guess the F.B.C. couldn't cover up a mess this big."

  • Jill Valentine: "Anyone who knows what happened here is gonna put two and two together."

  • Parker Luciani: "And that's why I've sent the BSAA in to investigate. Did you pick up your new equipment from Quint?"

  • Parker Luciani: "Yeah... The 'Genesis' or something. Is that its name?"

  • Jill Valentine: "You didn't bother to read the manual, did you?"

  • Parker Luciani: "No, but I brought it with me. Just in case."

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "I hope you read quickly, because you're going to need it on your mission."

  • Parker Luciani: "Yeah, yeah. I'm on it."

Parker takes out the Genesis' manual, after having been searching his person for it for some time. He proudly presents it to Jill.

{Cutscene ends}

{Gameplay}

Jill moves over to a rotten, shapeless blog of biomatter.

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "Look at this mess. They're rotten to hell."

When you used the Genesis on the blob:

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "The Genesis requires a decent sample size to get an accurate reading. Scan the carcasses on the beach and send me your data."

After another reading:

  • Jill Valentine: "I'm getting something... from inside it."

{Cutscene}

  • Parker Luciani: "Careful now."

  • Jill Valentine: "Don't worry. I've done this before."

Parker lifts up part of the blood to allow Jill to examine the underside. She sticks her arm in to pull out the source of the unusual reading.

  • Jill Valentine: "I've got something."

Jill takes her arm out and examines the item. It's some sort of vial containing a red liquid.

Jill Valentine: "If it's an engineered mutation, this could prove a link."

Clive R. O'Brian: "I'll run some tests on this. Continue the investigation."

Jill hands over the sample.

{Cutscene ends}

The player continues to take samples for the Genesis.

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "Hmm. We need more samples to run an analysis. Get me a few more."

After a few more samples are collected, one of the blobs will begin to move towards Jill.

  • Jill Valentine: "It moved!"

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "Careful, you two. God only knows what strain of virus we're dealing with."

  • Parker Luciani: "I kinda figured that. Don't worry, we're on it."

When the globster is dead

  • Parker Luciani: "After Raccoon City, this must be a cakewalk."

  • Jill Valentine: "I suppose. So why'd you quit the F.B.C. for this outfit?"

  • Parker Luciani: "I wanted to be more involved. I wanted to fight."

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "I see you two are OK. Continue with the investigation, but proceed with extreme caution."

When another globster is examined, it explodes.

  • Jill Valentine: "Eww. That smell. Must've ruptured from gas."

  • Parker Luciani: "Christ, what a mess."

After collecing the final sample, moving the progression up to 100%:

  • Jill Valentine: "I've collected enough samples."

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "Good. Get them to me A.S.A.P."

A globster erupts from a shed.

  • Parker Luciani: "Shit! Why the hell don't these things stay dead!?"

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "More of 'em? Hurry up and neutralize them."

  • Parker Luciani: "Finally, some peace and quiet."

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "All in a day's work for you two, eh? Alright, enough chit-chat. Get that sample data to me."

{Cutscene}

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "There you are. Nice work."

  • Jill Valentine: "No doubt about it, these corpses show signs of viral infection."

  • Parker Luciani: "And I bet it's no coincidence they came through the F.B.C.'s blockade."

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "Well, we did all we can. Now we wait for the results to come back from HQ."

O'Brian's mobile phone rings.

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "It's the emergency line."

O'Brian answers the call:

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "Yeah it's me. What!? Yes, that's fine. I'll take it from here. We'll have to speed things up. Starting now. ...uh-huh. Good, get to it."

The call ended, Clive turns back to Jill and Parker.

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "Jill, Parker. You two are still on the case."

  • Jill Valentine: "What happened?"

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "We lost contact with Chris and Jessica."

  • Parker Luciani: "When? How?"

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "We're not certain. I've sent their last known coordinates to your terminals."

Clive shows his communicator to Jill. Jill does the same.

  • Jill Valentine: "The signal was lost somewhere over the ocean. I thought they were in the mountains chasing Veltro. But judging from their position, they must be---"

  • Clive R. O'Brian: "---On a ship. I'll go back to HQ, take charge of the search and rescue. You two will be my eyes out there."

  • Parker Luciani: "Yes, sir."

Jill and Parker leave the beach as a storm begins. Clive looks out to see.

{Cutscene}

Queen Zenobia

Parker examines the body he and Jill killed earlier.

  • Parker Luciani: "Think these things got to Chris and Jessica?"

  • Jill Valentine: "I hope not."

  • Parker Luciani: "Hey, no one's saying Chris is dead..."

  • Jill Valentine: "Alright, then let's find him already."

Jill and Parker react to a sound coming from elsewhere in the room.

{Gameplay}

  • Parker Luciani: "You hear that? Was that the lock?"

  • Jill Valentine: "I'll check it out."

  • Parker Luciani: "Okay. I'll see what I can find here."

  • Jill Valentine: "Copy that. I'll radio you if I pick up Chris' trail."

If you examine the corpse:

  • Jill Valentine: "This thing has a lot of similarities to the corpses on the beach."

Jill looks through a peep-hole through a door. Inside is a black-haired man tied up to a chair.

  • Jill Valentine: "Chris! Chris! C'mon say something!"

Jill tries to open the door, but is unable to.

  • Jill Valentine: "I found Chris, but he's trapped in there."

  • Parker Luciani (via radio): "Can you get him out?"

  • Jill Valentine: "No, it's a tough lock. I need the key."

  • Parker Luciani (via radio): "Okay. Then let's find it."

Jill hears a woman scream. At the bottom of the stairs you will see her being attacked by a group of ooze before being thrown into the window, resulting in massive head trauma. The ooze then gang on her and begin to eat her while still concious.

When the Ooze have been dispatched:

  • Parker Luciani: "Jill, what's going on?"

  • Jill Valentine: "I found a survivor. The B.O.W.s got her though."

  • Parker Luciani: "Who was she?"

  • Jill Valentine: "I'm still trying to piece that together."

When a key is found near Rachel's body:

  • Jill Valentine: "Parker, I couldn't find anything out on the woman, but I did find a key."

  • Parker Luciani: "Let's try it out. I'll meet you under Chris' room. See you there."

'When Jill meets up with Parker:

  • Parker Luciani: "Jill!"

  • Jill Valentine: "C'mon! We gotta help Chris."

{Cutscene}

'Jill runs up to the man, soon noticing that he isn't reacting to her.

  • Jill Valentine: "Chris! ... Chris?"

Jill touches the man's shoulder; his head falls off. A close-up shows that he and the body are merely mannequins of Chris.

  • Jill Valentine: "What is this?"

Parker moves to the end of the room, spying a Veltro flag.

  • Parker Luciani: "Oh, great..."

The room fills up with a gas. Jill begins coughing and collapses to the floor.

  • Parker Luciani: "Shit, it's a trap!"

Parker, too, collapses as a Veltro agent walks towards the pair.

  • Veltro agent: "It's time your learned the truth, Ms. Valentine."

Valentine."

Walkthrough[]

Ship[]

Walk up the steps. A bell will sound as you loose footing in the stormy weather. Continue onwards to the door. Shoot the lock to allow entry. You are now inside a room of cardboard boxes. A body lies near the exit; examining it will reveal extra dialogue. Continue onwards down the hall and straight to the door in front.

A figure will stroll past the other side of the cardboard boxes. Moving to the other side of the room will reveal that it is empty, apart from a loose vent draining some sort of liquid. Continue through to the next corridor, where the creature from before passes through the vents above. Examining the blocked part of the hallway will trigger a short scene where a corpse falls out of the vent.

Go around the blockage by turning left; the creature will continue to move through the vents, above. Some health items may lie in the locker in front of you. Continue through the door.

You are now in a mess hall. Moving to the left of the room will trigger a group of rats to push out an electrical wall panel. Circle around the trays to get out of the room and into the kitchen. Examining the drain will take you to a cutscene.

You are now fighting your first enemy; an Ooze. Firing at its midsection should keep it away from you until it dies.

Beach head[]

After the two cutscenes, you will be on the beach. Your objective is to investigate the influx of carcasses being washed up from Terragrigia; to do so, simply use the Genesis device to examine the carcasses. When all in the area are scanned, one of the blobs will begin to move, revealing itself as a globster. After killing this enemy, continue onwards through the tunnel to the next area; notice a small blob inside the tunnel. On the outside is another globster, which will explode when you finish scanning it. The final globster is at the edge of the beach. After having reached 100%, head back to O'Brian.

Heading through the tunnel back to Clive, a globster will crash its way through a shed. Kill the final enemy and head over to Clive to finish this section of the episode.

Back to the ship[]

After examining the corpse from before, walk outside and head to the room straight ahead before going to the next door. Then proceed up the stairs to the next area. Walk into the cabin near the slime. Another ooze will attack you near the toilets. Dispatch it and continue out the other door back into the hallway.

Walking down the corridor, go through the blue door. You will hear a woman scream. At the bottom of the stairs you will see her being attacked by a group of ooze before being thrown into the window, resulting in massive head trauma. The ooze then gang on her and begin to eat her while still conscious. Dispatch the ooze and use the Genesis on the three target locations near Rachel's body. One of them is the Crew Quarters Area Key. Somewhere on the wall is an X-ray of a human body. Use the Genesis on it to get the award "Secret Sign 1".

Heading back to "Chris' room", an ooze will escape from a vent. As it is blocking the way, it must be killed. After killing the ooze, open the orange door to your immediate left with the Creq Quarters Area Key; you'll find yourself in the laundry room, which houses plenty of supplies. Another ooze will come out from near the laundry machines. Unless you are trying to collect 100% Genesis data, you can avoid it altogether and leave the room. The crew cabins will have more enemies in them, now, so be careful.

When you meet up with Parker, open the door to the cell. A cutscene will play and the level will end.

Further notes[]

Glitches[]

Easter eggs[]

On the beach, Jill can use the Genesis device on Parker and O'Brian and receive humorous responses. Parker comments that Jill wants to get to know the "real" him, while B'Brian asks if it detects him being "one sexy mofo".

Mistakes[]

References[]

  • While searching the Queen Zenobia, Jill finds a handgun attached to a disembodied hand. Obviously, this is a reference to the original opening scene of Resident Evil, where Joseph Frost discovers a severed hand in the same fashion.
  • A newspaper can be found on the beach. Dated 2004, its Examine claims it is the first newspaper to bring the existence of B.O.W.s to the public. While Alyssa Ashcroft began writing on B.O.W.s after the 1998 Raccoon City Destruction Incident, Jack Krauser's lack of belief in the existence of B.O.W.s in 2002 suggests no confirmation of the existence of bio-weapons was made until now.
  • Trish vending machines previously appeared in Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.
