Yasuyuki Matsunami is a Japanese game designer who worked on both Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 as a background designer.[1][2]

When development of Resident Evil 2 was restarted in early 1997, a decision was made that the Raccoon City Police Department be redesigned to compare with the Spencer Mansion. To gather the relevant data for creating the building, Matsunami had a photographer wander into a large European-style house in Japan, where they were caught. This was revealed in a 1998 interview with Famitsu translated by Tips & Tricks.
