- In the Paul W.S. Anderson directed Resident Evil live action films, not one character calls them "zombies". In the films, they are primarily referred to as "Undead".
- The idea that a zombie bite causes the victim to transform was first introduced in Resident Evil 2, rather than the original.
- Outbreak File #2 introduced the Green Zombie; This kind of zombie is more dangerous than other mutations (only matched by Crimson Heads and Lickers) since they would let out poisonous spores if hit or shot, which would cause poison its victims.
- In the non-canon spin-off, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, a new creature known as the Nemesis Beta parasite can influence zombies by making them more resilient to damage and far more aggressive towards their prey.
